(Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

10 Week Virtual Skills Training

DBT Virtual Skills Group

This virtual skills-based group teaches DBT skills in a 10 week program.

What are DBT Skills?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills are a set of social-emotional and resilience strategies that help people learn to live in the moment, cope effectively and handle challenges. The skills include:

Mindfulness

Mindfulness skills teach you how to be in the moment instead of caught up in your head. Through learning mindfulness, you are able to pay attention to what is happening inside and around you with nonjudgmental interest. When we are mindful, we have the ability to slow down, look at the big picture and make conscious decisions.

Emotion Regulation

Once you can be mindful in a moment, you are able to apply powerful skills for emotion regulation, that keep you from getting swept away by a challenging experience. Through emotion regulation skills you learn how to understand, manage and change intense emotions. By learning the skills you develop the capacity for more positive emotions and overall improve your own wellbeing.

Distress Tolerance

Distress tolerance skills help you accept current realities and handle a crisis. The skills help you increase tolerance of negative emotions so that you feel less inclined to escape them in unhealthy or dangerous ways.

Interpersonal Effectiveness

Interpersonal effectiveness skills help you assert yourself in relationships and maintain healthy boundaries. You will learn healthy ways to communicate and express yourself without damaging relationships or increasing conflict. Through application of these skills, relationships are strengthened without losing self-respect or personal needs in the process.
